Status: Absent critiques the homogenisation and selective representation of minority cultures. Community of dominant culture celebrate, appropriate and sometimes fetishise exoticness, reducing complex minority cultures to their cuisine or an atypical aspect of their culture. We exploit marketable aspects of minority cultures, yet neglect the oppression and social issues experienced by People of Colour. Status: Absent reflects on the inadequacy of truthful representation of minorities on media, in the local Brisbane community, as well as the global social climate.
