真空動物 | FAUNA SOUS VIDE

In Fauna Sous Vide: Ox Heart and Lamb, the colour of packaged meat is manipulated to resemble vegetables and plants. Fauna Sous Vide critiques the subliminal normalisation and encouragement of animal consumption. Commercial food packaging dissociate meat and the living sentient beings that they were part of, in order to ease the cognitive dissonance between opposing cruelty against animals and enjoying animal products experienced by consumers.

 

In a traditional upbringing that associates animal consumption with necessity and excessive animal consumption with luxury, one is often raised to be oblivious to the similarities of protected native fauna, domestic pets and animals raised in an agricultural setting. The exploitation of natural resources is justified and its consequences overlooked. The Fauna Sous Vide series is created specifically for this exhibition to challenge the meaning and value of “wild wonders” to humans.
